This bronze cast was originally a wax model, moulded quickly and blindly one tired night whilst thinking about the strain of caring. How sometimes you sacrifice your own well-being by prioritising holding others.

Whilst symbolising the emotional weight of empathy, and how debilitating that can be, it's also a comforting, heavy, warms-up-in-your-hands talisman. A reminder to carry on caring and to hug yourself as well.

Exhibited both online and physically as part of the project #mybodyinmyhands in May 2023. Organisers Sam Lucas and Nick Grellier asked people to create a hand-hold object that expressed how it felt to be in their body; exploring the physical manifestation of mental states of being.
